SEO explained
AI search still needs a website people can use
When search changes, the temptation is to add another layer of terminology. For a business website, the better first question is simpler: can a visitor find, understand and trust the answer on your page?
What Google’s guidance says
Google’s documentation says its existing SEO practices remain relevant to AI Overviews and AI Mode. There are no additional technical requirements or special schema markup for these features. A supporting page must be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet.
Google also says appearances in these AI features are included in overall Web search traffic in Search Console. Those totals should not be presented as a separate, precise count of AI referrals. This is an explanation of current guidance, not an announcement of a new ranking update.
Our take: start with an important existing page
Pick a page that helps someone decide whether your service or product is right for them. Read it without the context you have as the owner. Is the offer clear? Are important conditions easy to find? Does the page answer the question suggested by its title?
Then check the technical foundations. A useful page is hard to benefit from if it is inaccessible, points to the wrong canonical address or leaves visitors uncertain about which product they are viewing. Prioritize a verified problem over adding more text merely to look comprehensive.
Turn the guidance into a page review
Choose one existing page and list the buying questions it should answer. Check whether the essential information is present in accessible text, then review its canonical address and important conditions. Use the page-prioritization guide to record the observation and the change you decide to make.
Your next step
Write down the single most important question your page should answer. Check the page, choose one evidenced improvement and keep a record of what changed. Build the next decision on that record rather than treating every search announcement as a reason to rebuild your website.
